Plastic Optical Brightener Masterbatch

Product Description

Ageing and yellowing are common problems with plastics. Recycled plastics often yellow after repeated heating cycles and shearing mechanisms. When optical brighteners are used on plastics, they increase their brightness and gloss, which helps to hide aging and yellowing characteristics. Essentially, they absorb light at UV wavelengths between 340 and 370 nm and re-emit it at wavelengths between 420 and 470 nm, or the blue wavelengths of the visible spectrum. Optical brighteners are commonly used to improve the colour, gloss and brightness of recycled PE and PP, and virgin films and fibres, and to mask yellowness in manufacturing.
