During processing of polymers, especially those heated to higher temperatures for higher outputs, and during the long-term service life of final products, most of them are vulnerable to oxidative degradation.The purpose of this product is to remove moisture from raw materials. The combination of high shear, temperature, and oxygen in melt processing can cause oxidative degradation, which leads to discoloration, viscosity change, and loss of physical and mechanical properties, such as crazing and embrittlement. The products are subjected to high temperatures outdoors over their lifetime and also to air pollutants like Nitrogen oxides that cause product weakness and gas fading. Despite antioxidants being added to the resin by resin producers, these are consumable in nature and therefore get depleted with repeated heat histories, as the polymer does, for example at the rime of recycling and reprocessing. By using antioxidant masterbatch, one can replenish the reservoir of stabilizers in a product and prevent discoloration and failure. In other words, whether the purpose of adding recycled content is to improve sustainability or reduce costs, antioxidant masterbatches are essential to ensure the product meets the expectations of users. Antioxidant masterbatches are mixtures of primary and secondary antioxidants, usually phenolic and phosphites, which prevent polymer thermos-oxidative degradation during melt processing and during service life.Blown and cast films of LDPE, LLDPE are commonly used for mulch films, rotationally molded items, HDPE pipes, greenhouse films, granules, etc. When used in critical applications, anti-oxidant masterbatches can increase the OIT for HDPE pipes.
